Why This Matters

This appeal stems from Matsumoto et al. v. Labrador, a lawsuit initially filed by abortion providers to challenge an Idaho law that makes it a crime to assist individuals seeking an abortion outside the state. As part of that litigation, the district court of Idaho, which is now being sued here, allowed the parties to subpoena relevant communications between Right to Life of Idaho, Inc. and the Idaho legislature. Right to Life of Idaho, Inc., a non-party in the original litigation, filed this appeal to require the district court to quash the subpoena.

Potential Impact

Preventing organizations and other support networks from assisting individuals seeking abortion care outside of their state will exacerbate the health harms of individuals who already face significant hardships in accessing safe abortion health care.
