Docket No.
1:24-cv-12131
District Court
Massachusetts

Goal

  • Declaration that Massachusetts government acted unlawfully
  • Enjoin Massachusetts government actions

Litigation Content

Why this Matters:

The plaintiff, a crisis pregnancy center (CPC), alleges that Massachusetts’ actions to regulate CPCs violate First Amendment protections of freedom of speech and freedom to exercise religion. CPCs, which are not always staffed by medical professionals, often represent themselves as free reproductive health care clinics but actually provide anti-abortion counseling to patients who come in for family planning and pregnancy care.

Potential Impact:

Preventing states from regulating CPCs or otherwise warning their residents about medical misinformation and deceptive practices could delay access to reproductive care and expose patients to other risks involving personal privacy and safety.
